Yoakum softball: Columbus nudges Yoakum out of postseason

The Lady Bulldogs ecstatic  run in the playoffs ended last week with a close-contested series with  district rival Columbus 2-0 (2-1, 9-7) in Weimar. In both games, Columbus had to rally, including overcoming a four-run deficit in the seventh inning of the second game.

Yoakum High School art students, tennis players, and members of the Bulldog Band were recognized for their excellence in competition at Monday’s Yoakum ISD School Board meeting.

Softball to face Columbus; baseball to battle Lago Vista

The Yoakum softball and baseball teams have their respective playoff games set for this week. Softball The Lady Bulldogs play Columbus in the regional quarterfinals best-of-three series. All games will be played in Weimar. Game one will be 7 p.m. Thursday (tomorrow).

Bulldogs put in two good performances in bi-district sweep

The Yoakum baseball had two good games all round in sweeping Poteet (12-2, 10-0) Friday in Kenedy to win their bi-district series. The Dogs had double digits in hits in both games, gave up only handful of hits total and allowed just two runs. “We played a great series. Had two good games pitching.

Yoakum’s city council incumbents edged out by challengers

As few as two votes in one race and five in another is all that separated the winners from the losers Saturday in Yoakum’s first contested city council race in a couple decades, unofficial election night returns showed.
