Appelt reunion Sunday, June 7

The 62nd Appelt Family Reunion is scheduled for Sunday, June 7.Registration will begin at 10 a.m. and lunch consisting of stew, sausage, potatoes, and trimmings will be provided, along with cold drinks will be served at 12 noon.

Board discusses new bus law, swears in Luksovsky

A new Texas law has passed stating that by 2029, every school district must have seat belts on their buses.This is a part of Senate Bill 546 which requires all Texas school buses to be equipped with three-point seat belts by Sept. 1, 2029.

Yoakum ISD swears in board members

The Yoakum Independent School District swore in board members and gave enrollment updates at the May 12 meeting. Those being sworn included Gary Colman and Amanda Fling.“These board members are all incumbents,” YISD Superintendent Tom Kelley said.

Yoakum City Council approves code ordinances, swears in members for upcoming terms

Yoakum City Council held a public hearing and approved a second and final reading of Ordinance No. 2241 adopting updated international construction and safety codes for commercial and residential buildings at the May 12 meeting.

Community Emergency Response Team

DeWitt County now has applications open for its Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program.The CERT program is a nationally recognized initiative supported by FEMA that trains volunteers in basic disaster response skills.

Council approves new U.S. 77 speed limits, backs Veterans
