Rotary Club meets
Tierra Jo Furrh and Michael Furrh, owners of Jo’s Daiquiri & Beverage Barn in Yoakum, were the guest speakers invited by Rotarian Karen Barber to the Rotary Club meeting on April 7.
The naming of “Jo’s” is an interesting story. When the owner’s daughter was beginning to talk, she thought everyone’s middle name was “Jo” because it was her middle name as well as her mother’s middle name.
All of the family animals and everyone else going forward were given the middle name of “Jo” by her daughter. Therefore, everyone is “Jo.” Tierra worked for 16 years in law enforcement and was wanting a change. A good friend in Bay City, who also owns the same type of business, helped her make the big decision to open Jo’s Daiquiri & Beverage Barn.
Yoakum High School (YHS) seniors Kirsten Smith and Kylie Velek were also guests at the meeting. Kirsten is the daughter of Julie Smith and Derrick Smith. She recently was selected by the Texas Girls Coaches Association to the Academic All-State Basketball Team and signed with Texas Lutheran University in Seguin on a track scholarship. Kirsten plans to coach or become an athletic trainer.
Kylie Velek is the daughter of Landy Velek and Cullen Velek. She plans to attend college to study civil engineering.
