March Katz, Kittens Award of Excellence recipients
This month’s student recipient of the Katz and Kittens Award of Excellence is a senior who has led by example andachievedquitean impressivelistofaccomplishments. She has participated intheStudentCouncil,FFA, BetaClub,4-H,UILacademics, andathletics.Herhonors include being a part of the 1stplaceStateSocialStudies Teaminwhichshegarnereda silvermedalasanindividual, and her Science team also placedthirdatstate.
She garnered Grand ChampionhonorsintheRepublican WomenofYoakum’s essay contest and earned her FFA Lone Star Degree as well. Her community activities include maintaining the Governor’s Community Achievement Landscape Monument, volunteering at the Lutheran church spaghetti supper, working at anddonatingtotheCatholic Churchpicnic,refereeingLittle Dribblers,bakingpiesfor the scholarship auction, and working at the hamburger standatJamboree.Currently ranked number one in her class, she will attend Texas A&M in the fall to major in biomedical sciences, and after receiving her bachelor’s degree,shewillcontinueher education with the ultimate goalofbecomingalargeand smallanimalveterinarianin aruralarea.
This senior’s outstanding resume and character resulted in her most recent honor- being selectedastheChamberofCommerce OutstandingSenioratSunday’s banquet.Forherexceptional leadershipandaccomplishments, please help me congratulate our student recipient of the Katz andKittensAwardofExcellence, CatherineWenske.
OurstaffrecipientoftheKatz andKittensAwardofExcellence isateacherwhoservesastheperfect exampleofwhatitmeansto beaservantleaderinourschool andinourcommunity.
She has taught English for 18 years, and in each of those years she has served as the Student Council advisor. It is through StuCothatshehasdevelopedthe leadershipskillsofourstudents, showing them how to plan, organize, and conduct events that improvethelivesofourstudents.
Underherguidance,theCouncil has earned the Outstanding Student Council Award 17 years running, and the Moulton Council hasservedasadistrictofficer for14years.Shehasbeennamed theTASC DistrictAdvisor of theYear in 2015, 17, 19, and most recently, in 2022, and a perfectexampleofhowactive our StuCO is can be seen in their bid for state president. In2016,thestudentsdecided that little 1A Moultonwould head to the state convention with a campaign plan to run for the President school of State StuCo. I had the privilege ofchaperoningandhelping our advisor and students fromMHSforcearun-offvote fortheoffice.Itcamedownto a1ACouncilvs.a6ACouncil. Moultonwastherunner-upfor president that year, but our Council members were the biggestwinnersattheconvention becauseoftheirtenacity, teamwork, and leadership skills.
Rounding out her school efforts, she has been a 4-H clubmanagerforfouryears, she sponsors the yearbook, andshehascoachedstudents to the state academic meet in Ready Writing and Prose Interpretation.
Her list of community activities is long and impressive, withmostofherefforts centeredaroundSt.Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Chamber of Commerce. She is currently theYouth Mass Coordinator and helped beg i n t h e monthly pancake breakfastatchurch,andafter yearsasamemberanddirector oftheChamber,shenow serves as president and was instrumental inobtainingtheGVEC Power Up grant which added a 16-foot lighted tree to our downtown YuleTrail.YoucanseewhyI nominatedherfortheChamber’s DistinguishedCitizenoftheYear, an well-deserved award she was presentedSundaynight.
