28-AAA SOFTBALL FINAL STANDINGS
COLUMBUS – A year ago, Columbus snapped the Hallettsville Lady Brahmas’ string of seven consecutive district championships in a row.
The Lady Brahmas got some measure of revenge with an 11-4 win over the Lady Cardinals to sew up the 28-AAA title last Tuesday.
Kaylie Olivarez and Emily Migl combined to hold the Cardinals to three earned runs.
Olivarez (11-1) started and pitched five innings, striking out nine while ceding four runs, six hits and two bases on balls.
Migl worked the final two innings and retired all six batters she faced with four strikeouts.
The issue was in doubt until the seventh inning and Hallettsville (24-3, 14-0) led by a slim margin of 7-4 going into the frame before rallying for four runs.
With one out, Emilie Griffin went opposite field with a triple to left field and scored on a base by Courtney Woytek. Hanna Zachary doubled to move Woytek to third. Migl and Olivarez chased home the final two runs with singles.
Hallettsville scored first in the first. Woytek, who went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four runs batted in, led off with a single and dented the plate on a base hit by Migl.
Five more runs scored in the second for a 6-0 lead. Ten batters approached the plate and all runs scored after two were out. Katelyn Pustejovsky started the spurt with a double and scored on a two-bagger by Woytek which followed an Ella Amsden walk. Carson Jansky and Migl had runscoring singles.
