St. Paul tennis team concludes season with state qualifiers

The St. Paul tennis team had six athletes compete in the TAPPS 2A state tournament in Waco earlier this month.
District
Girls Singes
Sarah Barecky took sixth place; she  had a first-round bye, lost to Bulverde Bracken Christian’s Macey LaRocca 8-2 in the quarterfinals, defeated Sacred Heart’s Savannah Filip 8-0 and lost to Bracken’s Alexandra Grinstead in the fifth-place game 8-3. Faith Machart fell to Maria Diaz of Juan Diego 8-1 in the first round, had a bye in the consolation quarterfinals, beat Alexandra Kraatz of Sacred Heart 8-1 in the semifinals and scored an 9-2 win over Alexander in the consolation final and lost in a rematch to Filip 8-3 in the eighth-place match.
Girls Doubles
Rebecca Wagner and Julie Davis had a first-round bye, defeated Dawson and Hendler of Allen Academy 8-5 in the quarterfinals, fell to Slatter and Arellano of Sacred Heart 8-5 in the semifinals and lost to Sacred Heart’s Brown and Henke 8-3 in the third-place match.
Maurin Knesek and Julia Barecky lost to Griffin and Detert of Bracken Christian 8-3 in the first round, had a bye in the consolation quarterfinals and defeated Gonzalez and Torres of Juan Diego 8-1 in the semifinals before beating Marhofer and Nikolai Bracken in the final 8-5.
They finished ninth after an 8-6 loss to McGlothlin and Hanover in Allen Academy.
Boys Singles
Caden Malinovsky defeated Logan Altomare 8-5 in the first found and lost to Briarwood’s Brandon Hiemstra 8-2 in the quarterfinals.
He defeated Riley Haas of Sacred Heart 8-5 to advance to the fifth-place game where he fell to Briarwood’s Sawyer Kaplan 8-0.
Boys Doubles
Jacob Twyford and Michael Wagner had a first-round bye, edged Briarwood’s Barrionuevo and Adams 9-8 and fell to Kutac and Valchar of Sacred Heart 8-1 in the semifinals. They lost to Allen Academy’s Gessner and Dawson 8-1 in the third-place game.

Sarah Barecky lost to Kendall Mason of Marble Falls Faith Academy 3-0, 6-0, 10 in the first round.
Girls Doubles
Wagner and Davis lost to Lubbock Christ the King  4-6, 7-6, 10-4 in the first round.
Boys Singles
Malinovsky lost to Lubbock Preparatory Academy’s Cayden West 6-0, 6-1.in the first round.
Boys Doubles
Twyford and Wagner fell to Wooten and Branch of Lubbock Kingdom Preparatory Academy 6-2, 6-1 in the first round.
