DLSEC gone fishin’
Nearly 100 students gathered in Shiner’s Green-Dickson Municipal Park for the 8th annual RISE Reel Fishin event hosted by the DeWitt-Lavaca Special Education Cooperative (DLSEC) on Thursday, April 28.
The event allowed students to fish and enjoy the late spring weather while socializing at one of Lavaca County’s most popular parks.
“It is a time where families, volunteers, students, and staff can all come out and enjoy the fresh air, sunshine, fishing, playing, and eating,” explained DLSEC Director of Operations Meredith Hairell. “Shiner ISD Superintendent Alex Remschel and DLSEC Multi-District Programs Administrative Assistant Lauren Wendel spearheaded the organization of this event and made it a great success.”
Hairell thanked the organizations and individuals who donated their time, efforts and supplies to contribute to the event’s success. Kodiak Gas Services representatives from their Cuero office volunteered at the event by assisting students with fishing and grilling hamburgers for staff and guests. Howard’s donated bait for the students to use while fishing, and Shiner city staff manicured the park in preparation for the event.
