Two Cents with the Times, April

Two Cents with The Times is a monthly portion of the Herald-Times where locals and visitors have the chance to share their opinion on topics relevant to the Yoakum community. Participants were selected using opportunity sampling in downtown Yoakum. This month’s interviewees answered the following question:

What is your favorite spot to take visitors when they come to Yoakum?

Susan Hensley, Katy

“I don’t live here, but I work here. So, when I’m here, I like to go and eat at Emiliano’s. … They’ve got good food. The price is reasonable, and everyone in there is friendly. … I like the downtown, I like the trees. I just like everything about it.”

Elizabeth Anderson, Cuero

“I like Taqueria Vallarta because the food is good, the prices are good, and the restaurant is nice. The servers are good, (so are) the owners and all that. But when I have brought people over to J’s Burger (in downtown), they were like, ‘I’m coming back. Whenever I come to Yoakum, I’m coming to eat at J’s Burger.’ They like it that much, and it is good. (They have) fair prices and good homestyle food.”

Tim Bulot, Yoakum

“Well, there’s a couple of places we usually take family when they come to town: the museum and (Central Station Bar and Grill). … The town has a lot of history and it’s all shown at in the museum. It’s good to support because they’re local; we like to support local. Same with the restaurant; they’ve got good food. We’ve got plenty of Mexican restaurants but we like to get some good steaks once in a while. It’s a good atmosphere.”

Jessica Maciel, Yoakum

“(Emiliano’s), it’s very family-friendly. The staff is very nice, and it just tastes like someone’s grandma made it. It’s made with love.”
