Treasure show funds improvements to local church

YOAKUM- Metal detecting enthusiasts collected in Yoakum for a treasure show that dedicated proceeds to improving Fresh Start Fellow on May 7.

The Fresh Start Church and Cuero Area Detecting hosted The Greatest Little Treasure Show in Texas at the Yoakum Community Center. Dozens of experienced detectors and aspiring first-times participated in the adult and children’s hunts outside.

Money raised through raffles, a silent auction, food sales, and donations will improve the Fresh Start Fellowship church building at 322 Pat Cleburne Street that has provided locals a place for worship since 1957, most recently through Abundant Grace Church of Yoakum.

Senior Pastor Terry Brown reported that the event raised more than $7 thousand from the event to begin improvements. Locals and vendors came from communities near and far to enjoy the hunt and show.

“Overall, “(it was) a success,” reported Brown. “Some detectorists are (already) asking about next year.”
