Fireman’s Fest draws several hundred visitors
Despite Saturday’s blazing temperatures, hundreds of attendees filled the streets of Sweet Home to enjoy the 16th annual Fireman’s Fest and raise funds for the local volunteer fire department.
The event included its traditional car show that featured dozens of stunning vehicles ranging from classic Ford Model A’s to modern sports cars. Guests also enjoyed vendors, a children’s Bucket Brigade, and other festivities while cookoffs filled the air with mouth-watering aromas.
The annual celebration’s schedule of events concluded in the Sweet Home Community Center with a live performance from South Paw.
In addition to providing guests with an entertaining Saturday, the event is also the fire department’s largest annual fundraiser. This year’s festival helped fund a 2,000-gallon water tender that has more than double the carrying capacity of the department’s current tender.
“We appreciate (attendees) going through all these obstacles: fuel prices, the heat, prices of meats and everything like that. Still, they come out here to support us and help us out,” said Fire Chief Larry Kupka.
