Dennis Ray Schacherl

Dennis Ray Schacherl was born on July 4, 1950 and passed away on June 21, 2022 at the age of 71. 

 Dennis was born at Strieder Hospital in Moulton, to Edwin and Edith (Roznovsky) Schacherl.  

On May 16, 1987, he married Kathleen Heinrich.

Dennis graduated from Moulton High School in 1968 and then went to work for the Texas Highway Department in Victoria.  

In 1974 Dennis returned to Moulton and began working at Kaspar Wire Works where he completed a 40-year career retiring in 2012. 

In 1975 Dennis partnered with his cousin, Rodney Petrek, opening Alley Bar-B-Q serving barbecue on Saturday mornings.  They continued to grow the business into a catering company and restaurant feeding the people of Moulton and many surrounding areas.

In his spare time, Dennis enjoyed volunteering to cook at local church picnics and other local events.  He served the Volunteer Fire Department in Moulton, starting in 1979 and remained an honorary retired volunteer up until his death.  He also valued his active membership in the Dog Club since 1999.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising cattle, spending time with his grandchildren, and having a beer with friends.  

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Edith Schacherl.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Kathleen Schacherl of Moulton; his children, Joy (Marcos) Trevino of College Station; Lindsey (Sean) Das of Albuquerque, N.M., and Joshua Schacherl of Moulton, as well as his grandchildren, Caleb and Emma Das of Albuquerque, N.M.

Pallbearers were Bo and Bradley Petrek, Devin and Shawn Jones, Mike Ramirez, Dale Gold, Kevin Tesch, and Nathan Beyer.

Visitation for Dennis began at 3 p.m. and continued until 6 p.m., Sunday, June 26 at Smith Funeral in Moulton. 

 Rosary was recited at 9:30 a.m., Monday, June 27  at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moulton.

Funeral Mass followed at 10 a.m. Father Gabriel Maison officiated. 

 Burial followed  in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Moulton.
