Brown wins Coach of the Year award
St Paul coach Nicco Brown was chosen as the TAPPS 2A Female Coach of the Year 2021-22.
She helped coach St. Paul athletes to a plenty of state success during the school year.
She was head coach of the 2A girls cross-country state championship, girls golf state championship and of the 2A boys fifth-place state golf team.
Brown was also assistant on the 2A girls state basketball, girl regional finalist volleyball team and assisted with track where the girls were 2A state runner ups and the boys finished in fifth place at state.
"What an honor to be nominated and receive the TAPPS 2A Female Coach of the Year Award. I know this could not have been made possible without everyone of our athletes at Shiner St. Paul giving their all throughout the entire year,” Brown said. “Sports are a commitment of both time and energy. All of our athletes pitch in to make us successful. It is absolutely my pleasure to be a part of Cardinal Athletics, and to be able to work with outstanding student athletes and staff. I look forward to another great year."
In previous years, she was the head coach of one girls state cross country team and three state golf champions teams.
St. Paul athletic director Jake Wachsmuth said Brown absolutely deserved the award.
“Coach Brown is extremely deserving of this honor. She has done a fantastic job leading our golf and cross country teams but she also is a great assistant coach and is always willing to help in any way needed. Our kids and our school are blessed to have her,” he said.
In the upcoming 2022-23 school year, Brown has added head coach of the Lady Cardinals volleyball program to her list of teams she is head coach or assistant coach for.
