MOULTON POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT
The Moulton Police Department responded to 154 calls from July 9 to Aug. 8, which resulted in 36 warnings and 11 citations during the monthlong period between council meetings.
Seven of the citations issued last month, interim police chief Daniel Beyer reported, were for truck ordinance violations of the posted city truck route.
Also in his monthly report to council, Beyer noted that Officer Jeff Alexander’s first day fell on July 21, that a background check was underway for reserve officer Bill Teich, and that Officer Mark Miller and he (Chief Beyer) had met with Richard Ramirez, who was interested in a possible reserve position with Moulton PD.
Officer Raul Diaz, remains on medical leave after suffering an on-the-injury earlier this year, having met his surgeon Friday, Aug. 8. Chief Beyer and his fellow officers wished him the best as he continues to recover.
Chief Beyer also reported that he and Officer Miller met recently with school officials in July to discuss MISD safety and security issues, the first of what he suspects will be several such meetings in coming weeks.
Beyer, who also happens to serve as MISD president, said he felt the meeting with Superintendent Renee Fairchild and her staff went well, but added “there was still much to be done on that subject.”
MISD voted in July to employ a uniformed officer at the school this year, though present funding allowed for half a day coverage each week. How that half day will play out precisely, will be known only by the police department, however, as far as timing and on which day/days those visits may fall.
Additional state funding may create more opportunities and grants are also being sought for the position, to allow for more officers month involvement at the schools as well.
A final note on the 2022 Moulton Jamboree: “The event was a success withy no major incidents to report,” Beyer said. “I met with Anna Bartos, Chamber president, following the event, and I’m happy to report there were no issues or complaints.”
