Ervin A. Balusek
Ervin Albert Balusek, Sr., 90, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on Thursday, August 25, 2022.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 10 at Vsetin Czech Moravian Brethren Church, with Dr. Mark Labaj officiating.
Interment will immediately follow in the Vsetin Cemetery under the direction of Shiner Funeral Home, Shiner.
He was born July 14, 1932 in Lavaca County, to Charles and Annie (Sevcik) Balusek. Growing up in Orange Grove, Ervin was a multi-sport, star athlete, and was later inducted into the Orange Grove High School Sports Hall of Fame.
After high school, he served six years in the United States Air Force including a tour of duty in the Korean War. After honorably completing his military service, he earned a Business degree from Texas A&I University and retired in 1994 from Koch Industries as a Petro-Chemical Technician.
Ervin was deeply patriotic and involved in his community, he was active in the Masonic Lodge, VFW, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in New Braunfels. After retirement, Ervin loved to play golf, and took great pleasure beating people half his age with his straight drives and mean short game. He also enjoyed traveling, yardwork, and watching old Westerns.
Survivors include his second wife, Sue Ann Balusek of Georgetown; children, Catherine and Mike Wilson of Donie, Ervin Balusek Jr. of Abilene, and Cheryl Jansen of San Antonio; stepchildren, Margie Maxwell (Jim), Rebecca Woytek, Jennifer Nagel (Tom), Jonathan Woytek (Patricia); grandchildren, Jennifer Hamon (Randy), Michael Lee Funderburk, Kristen Jansen, and Austin Jansen; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Ethan Piorkowski, and Hunter Hamon; step-grandchildren, Brandon Maxwell (Cassie), Christopher Maxwell, Tanner Nagel, William Nagel, Mason Woytek, and Wyatt Woytek; step-great grandchild, Riley Maxwell; brother, Lester R. Balusek; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Joyce Balusek; son, Larry Balusek; brothers, Donald Ray Balusek, Carl Balusek and Richard Balusek, and sisters, Gladys Prochazka and Margie Guthrie.
