Joe Fred Chandler
Joe Fred Chandler, 75, of Yoakum, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022.
Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 20 at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, October 21 at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home.
Arrangements were under the direction of Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home, Yoakum.
He was born in Yoakum on April 16, 1947 to Edward “Pat” and Alice Goode Chandler. In 1967, he married Jennifer Rosser and together they had and raised three children. In 1970, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in Wildlife Science from Texas A&M University.
After graduation, he started his teaching career and spent a decade teaching Biology and Chemistry, most of this time was at Shiner High School, where he loved teaching and encouraging participation in the Science Fair.
After this time, he started working at Dupont where he was a Lab Analyst for over 20 years until his retirement. In 1999, he married Jo Ann Guentert and gained another daughter. After retirement, and some time working in the Wireline Industry, he opened The Cookie Jar.
In his lifetime, he enjoyed being a rancher, hunting with friends, coaching little league, collecting antiques and oddities, and helping people. He was a picker of antiques and lucky slot machines.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Guentert Chandler; daughters, Julie Zapalac (Charles) and Jo Gina Mooney (Steven); son, Joe Fred Chandler Jr.; grandchildren, Samuel Chandler, Timothy Chandler and Charles “C.J.” Zapalac; step-daughter, Shelley Anderson (Steven); step-grandson, Landen Anderson; sister, Effie Elmasri; and brother, John Chandler (Linda).
He was preceded in death by his parents.
