Yoakum football: Bulldogs face Hempstead this week
The Yoakum Bulldogs play their final regular-season away game with a trip to Hempstead this week.
“We are looking forward to playing a team that is no in the top 10,” Yoakum head coach Bo Robinson said.
The Bobcats have struggled this year so far with a 1-7 record and are 0-2 in district play.
They are scoring just 10 points a game and yielding 42 points a game.
“They have struggled this season but they do have athletes who have speed,” he said. If we can get after them, we have a good shot.”
Yoakum in coming in with a 2-6 record and is also 0-2 in district play.
Demarcus Dixon will lead the ground game with Marlon Fisher taking the snaps. Calvin Thompson will contribute in the passing attack.
“They are spread team that lines up in the shotgun and will use tight ends. Our defense will have to keep their backs inside the ends and not let them break containment,” Robinson said. “When Hempstead throws, we need to get some pressure on the quarterback.”
Leading the defense is end Camani Kilpatrick and Dalton Hillbun.
“We need to get our defense some rest and keep Hempstead’s offense off the field by having a good running game,” Robinson said.
Next week, the ‘Dogs close the season at Hallettsville.
