Moulton cross country: Moulton teams ready for state
Both Moulton girl and boys cross-country teams will be running in the state meet this year after each finished third at regionals.
The boys did come close to going to state as a team in 2021 and worked hard to get past the hump this season.
“It's always exciting when both the boys and girls qualify for the state meet,” Moulton head coach John Meisetschleager said. “Last year the boys came really close and were determined to do it this year. Both teams have been training really hard.”
To get into the top three this year, the Kittens will have to perform well as a team and individually.
“Girls will have to run at their highest level to get to the podium at the state meet. Our four and five girls will have to remain closer to the three runner than they have been doing. However they will all need a good performance on race day,” Meisetschleager said.
The boys team, led by regional champion Edgar Mendiola, know they have a chance to have a great state meet.
“The boys have high expectations for themselves. We are entering the state meet with the regional individual champion Edgar Mendiola. Additionally, our boys understand that they have a great opportunity to be successful at the state meet,” Meisetschleager said. “Each week they seem to run a little better. All seven of the boys are competitors and really will put all their effort into being successful.”
The Kittens will run at 11:40 am Saturday and the Katz will go at at 12:10 p.m. at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.
