Yoakum football: Bulldogs finish regular season at home to Hallettsville

The Yoakum Bulldogs close out the season at home with county rival Hallettsville Brahmas.
With last week’s 41-6 win over Hempstead, Yoakum has wrapped up at least fourth place and a spot in the  playoffs.
The Brahmas are 2-1 in district and are tied for second with Columbus, who plays at Hempstead (0-3).
The result of the Hallettsville game can improve the Bulldogs’ playoff seeding. A win will push Yoakum to third place while a loss will keep them in fourth.
“This is always a big and exciting game, and we are looking forward to it,”  Yoakum head coach Bo Robinson said. “I know our kids are going to play hard in this one.”
Hallettsville is 7-2 overall, and their spread offense is scoring 32.5 points a game. The defense is allowing just 14 points a game.
The Brahmas run-heavy offense is led by Jashaun Price and Damarion Austin; top receiver is DeKeidreis Bedford. Jarion Wilson was the starter coming into the season but he suffered an injury in the opener to Shiner and Brandt Trilicek.
“The best thing for defense to do is to stop their running game and make them one dimensional,” Robinson said.
On the flip side, Yoakum needs to have balance in its offensive production.
“We need to be able to run it and throw it against Hallettsville,” Robinson said.
Mike McAfee will be key player on both lines.
Note: Game will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday (Nov. 3) due to weather forecasts.
