Shiner boys basketball: Shiner boys defeat Runge, Bloomington, Victoria St. Joseph in recent game


Carson Schuette scored 19 points and Bode Prove put in 14 points with both players hitting two threes in Shiner’s 71-25 win over Runge Dec. 27 at home.
“It was good to get a win since we had some close losses,” Shiner head coach Jeff Akin said. “We got to work on a few things and our players were focused and took the game seriously.”
Shiner dominated the opening quarter by outscoring Runge 25-3 with six Comanches scoring, led by Drew Wenske  who banked in half a dozen points and Prove sank five points. Runge got a late triple to prevent a scoreless period.
Prove made two buckets and Ryan Peterson made a three to pace a 9-4 Shiner run in the second stanza.
Schuette and Prove each made a late triple with Runge hitting a triple to at the buzzer to put Shiner ahead 47-11 at halftime.
Schuette made a three and scored seven points as the Comanches ran the score up to 54-14 in the third quarter.
The Yellowjackets then made a run with a seven straight points including a tres and the quarter concluded when Cauy Herman grabbed a steal and scored.
In the last eight minutes, Schuette sank five points and Kyle Muehstein contributed four points in Shiner’s 15-4 run.

Peterson scored 14 points, Schuette had 13 points and Wenske provided another 12 as Shiner routed Bloomington 55-31on the road Dec. 16 to start district play.
Shiner went up 17-2 in the first frame and led 29-12 at halftime. The Wildcats managed to outdo Shiner 15-14 in the third quarter and the Comanches responded with a 12-7 run in the fourth.

Peterson, Schuette and Wenske combined for 39 points and six triples to lead Shiner to a 54-50 barn burner at Victoria St. Joseph on Dec. 17.
Shiner led 10-4 after one quarter and outscored the Flyers 11-9 in the second frame for a 21-13 halftime lead. The Comanches went up 21-13 at the break and pushed their lead to 38-24 after the end of the third.
The Flyers made a massive run of 26-16 in the fourth quarter but could not draw level.

Trailing Hallettsville just 24-22, the Comanches could not keep the Brahmas off the board in the second half and were outscored 31-22 to fall 55-44 Dec. 20 at home.
The Brahmas went up 40-35 after the third quarter and outscored Shiner 15-9 in the fourth period.
Hallettsville led 11-9 after one frame and the teams split 26 points in the second quarter.
Peterson and Jared Werner each hit a three and finished with 12 points. Bedford for Hallettsville led all scorers with 26 points.
