Moulton girls hoops: Kittens get five wins in recent acton

The Moulton Bobkittens went 3-1 in the Thorndale Tournament Dec. 27-29 and hosted Karnes City Jan. 3 before returning to district with win over PL.

Moulton 36, Crawford 29
Estefania Colchado scored 14 points and drained four triples in Moulton’s 36-29 win over Crawford on Dec. 27 in their first tournament game.
Crawford took a 7-6 lead in the first frame and Moulton outscored Crawford 5-3 in the second box. The Kittens went on a 12-8 run in the third and outscored Crawford 13-11.

Moulton fell behind Saldo 15-10 in the first quarter and could not recover, falling 57-24 in their next game on Dec. 27.
Saldo led 30-14 at halftime, outscored Moulton 16-1 in the third and 11-9 in the fourth quarter.
Mary-Claire O’Leary led the Kittens in the scorebook with 11 points.

The Kittens took a 38-36 win over Rogers on Dec. 28 with a 14-12 run in the fourth quarter.
The Kittens led 8-7 after the first quarter and Rogers went on a 15-10 run for a 22-18 halftime lead. Moulton tied the game with a 6-2 run in the third.
O’Leary led Moulton with 15 points.

The Kittens outscored McGregor 15-7 in the second quarter and downed the Lady Bulldogs 33-21. Moulton led 4-3 after the first frame and outscored them 10-4 in the third box; McGregor outscored the Kittens 7-4 in the fourth frame.

The Kittens defeated Karnes City 49-25 at home to kick off 2023 with 17 points from O’Leary and 10 points by Addison Simper. Moulton led 13-7 after one quarter and 21-15 at halftime before outscoring the Lady Badgers 28-10 in the second half.

Last Friday, the Kittens returned to the district path with a 53-33 win at Prairie Lea.
Moulton took a 23-8 lead in the first quarter and Prairie Lea countered in the second frame with a 13-6 run that left the Kittens up at halftime 29-21.
Moulton went on a 12-5 run in the third frame and scored 12 of 19 points in the fourth quarter.
Araceli Vasquez hit a triple and scored 13 points with O’Leary scoring 13 points. Colchado hit a triple and sank 10 points.
Zapata led the Lady Arrows with 14 points.
