Leonita Panus
Leonita Louise (Vasek) Panus, 81, of Shiner, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 15, 2023.
A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 17 at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 18 at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bryan Heyer officiating.
Burial will follow at Shiner Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home, Yoakum.
She was born July 13, 1941 in Moulton to Jerome and Helen (Zidek) Vasek.
She graduated from Sam and Will Moore Institute in Moulton and married her beloved Joseph Panus. They moved to Shiner and remained there to raise their sons, Mark, Paul and Michael. Leonita was a member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church and was a devout Catholic. She was employed at Ferrell Gas Co for over 20 years and worked as a secretary at Kaspar Wire Works for many years.
She was a dedicated Pilot Club member for many years and was committed to making life better for others. Her greatest joy was her family, making them the best cream puffs ever and doting on her grandchildren.
After the passing of her beloved Joe in 1996, she met her special friend, Perry Smith. They traveled extensively all over the world enjoying their senior years, until his passing in 2016.
Survivors include two sons, Mark Panus and wife Delores of Shiner, and Paul Panus and wife Kimberly of Kingsland; five grandchildren, Courtney, Kelsea, Ryan, Sarah, Julia; three step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, triplets River, Ryder and Reese Morkovsky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Panus; son, Michael Panus; her parents; and brother, Leon Vasek.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of South Texas, Shiner Pilot Club or Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church.
