Pallbearers were Jake Jalufka, Andrew LaBounty, Cole Jalufka, Collin LaBounty, Duane Fojtik, and Conor Kresta.
Honorary pallbearers were Madison Jalufka and Jamie Jalufka.
He was born on August 14, 1940, in Angleton, Texas to Leo and Leona Meyer and remained the only child. He grew up in Shiner where he attended St. Ludmila’s Academy from kindergarten through 12th grade. He started his college education at Texas A&M and quickly decided the corps was NOT for him.
After transferring to the University of Texas at Austin, he graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering and a passion for the Texas Longhorns. Robert’s career in the Houston Oil Industry excelled for over 30 years working for IMCO before retiring with Newpark in 2013.
His career allowed him to travel all over the world including South America and Europe. In all of his travels, Aberdeen Scotland won the prize as his favorite destination. In 2005, Robert received an award of excellence for his patent of New East 203, a downhole drilling lubricant.
Robert married the love of his life, Anna Marie Patek on October 29, 1966, and instantly gained nine new brothers and sisters. Throughout their 56 years of marriage, they shared a passion for traveling, cruising, Texas Longhorn football games and maybe a casino or two. Robert and Ann enjoyed weekend getaways at their bay house in Sargent, Texas for over 25 years.
Robert loved to BBQ, going to the beach, floating down the river and enjoying a relaxing evening in the hot tub. Football was his favorite sport, and he was a season ticket holder for the Texans from the very beginning (don’t judge). When he wasn’t helping Ann with honey do’s, he could often be found walking his beloved family dog, “Sadie” around the block.
Robert was the father of three daughters, Tracey Jalufka, Leslie LaBounty, and Amanda Almanza. He always wanted a son, but all he got was girls, including his pets. He was a very kind, loving, gentle and supportive father. He loved attending all of his daughters sporting events growing up but he wasn’t very good at doing their hair during dance recitals. He was a strong shoulder to cry on whenever his daughters needed a father’s love. He was the ultimate girl dad.
Robert aka PoPo was the grandfather of six grandchildren - four boys and two girls. He loved being PoPo and was so proud of all of his grandchildren even though they all went to Texas A&M. He enjoyed going to all of their sporting events, graduations and providing words of wisdom to each and every one of them.
The family shared their final moments with Robert Lee while listening to his favorite hits by Willie Nelson, Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears, and of course… the UT Fight Song. HOOK EM!
