She was born on September 20, 1950, in Shiner, to Victor and Annie Patek, the fifth of ten children. She grew up in Shiner and attended St. Ludmila’s Academy and graduated from St. Paul High School.
Upon graduation, Carol moved to Houston where she started her career in insurance, later married and had two children Nicholas Harold Smith and Natalie Carol Smith. She adored her granddaughters, Lyla and Macey Smith, and loved being a “Grammy.”
In her younger years, Carol was a singer in a band and a wedding singer with her brother, Vic. She was also very athletic as an excellent water skier, member in a bowling and racquetball league, and a baseball catcher for her son.
Carol loved gardening, canning vegetables, fishing, travelling, and telling jokes. She made the best chocolate creme pies and black-eyed peas. She loved her animals, hanging out with family and friends, and she was always seeking an adventure.
Anytime there was an event, trip, game, party, or any fun activity, Carol would always be the first to say, “I want to go!”
In the summer of 2019, Carol reunited with her high school sweetheart after 52 years, David Brosh, and they married on June 25, 2022. David “recharged her battery” the last years of her life.
Carol had a way of lighting up the room and had a heart the size of Texas. We will all miss her dimples and her infectious laughter. We love you sweet Mama forever and always.
Survivors include her loving family, husband, David Brosh of Shiner; daughter, Natalie Carol Smith of Houston; stepdaughter, Christy Bohuslav (Ronnie) of Moulton; son, Nicholas Harold Smith (Teresa) of Katy; stepson, Jeremy David Brosh (Gigi) of Spring Branch; sisters, Ann Meyer, Dodi Bannert, Darlene Kresta (Tim), all of Shiner, Rosie Ross of Moulton; brothers, Victor Patek Jr. (Karen), Michael Patek (Rose) all of Shiner; grandchildren, Lyla Smith and Macy Smith; sixstep-grandchildren, and five great-step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Dorothy Fojtik; and brothers, Marvin Patek and Ervin Patek.
Memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
