Arrangements are under the direction of Shiner Funeral Home, Shiner.
She was born on February 22, 1939, in Lavaca County, to Adoph and Elenora Langoff Drabek. She married Jerry Welch in 1988.
She had been a member of the United Evangelical Lutheran Dr. Martin Luther Church in Shiner.
Virgie grew up in Shiner and graduated from Shiner High School with the Class of 1957 before attending business school in Victoria.
She had worked as an Assistant Administrator for the Trinity Lutheran Home for 30 years before retiring at 65 years of age.
Virgie enjoyed gardening and caring for her many dogs. She was firm in raising her children, but far more memorably she was a loving and caring mom.
She often tried to teach her children to be strong, brave and independent. She knew once out on their own, the world could be harsh and she wanted them prepared face the trials and harshness they may encounter.
Survivors include her loving family, daughter, Shirley Ann Bordovsky (Raymond Jr.) of Yoakum; and son, Gerry Wayne Setliff of Shiner.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Welch; her parents; three brothers; and one sister.
Memorials may be made to the United Evangelical Lutheran Dr Martin Luther Church in Shiner.
