Shiner baseball:Comanches place second in Columbus

The Shiner Comanches baseball went 3-1 in the Columbus Tournament and placed second.

Carson Schuette, Landyn Pohler and Keenan Hailey all had a two-hit day at the plate as Shiner beat Lexington 10-3 in their tournament opener on Thursday.
Lexington took a 2-0 lead in the first frame and Shiner tied the game in the second frame. The Comanches broke the bottleneck with a run in the third inning, and plated three runs in each of the fourth and fifth boxes. Each team scored a run in the sixth inning.
Schuette started on the hill, going three innings with two runs on five hits and four strikeouts. Cale Shows worked three innings, one run, one hit, two walks and two strikeouts.

The Comanches managed just three hits but pitched and played defense well in a 4-0 win over Smithville later on Thursday.
Drew Wenske picked up the win by ceding just one hit with one walk and four strikeouts in three innings; Kaiden Boothe tossed one inning in relief with one strikeout and Pohler also worked one inning with one walk and one strikeout. Hailey, Bryce Nerada and Schuette got a ht each with Hailey, Nerada, Ryan Peterson and Caleb Lehnert scoring one run.
Shiner scored once in the third, once in the fourth and two runs in the fifth inning.

The hosts Cardinals scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning and it was all they needed to deal Shiner a 2-0 loss on Saturday.
Shiner managed just one hit, a single by Peterson.
Peterson started on the mound, went three innings with four walks and three strikeouts; Boothe pitched three innings with two runs on two hits, two batters hit, two walks and eight strikeouts.

Shiner rebounded in its second Saturday game by downing Wallis Brazos 16-0.
Shiner scored seven runs in the first and third innings, and brought in two runs in the fourth inning.
Highlighting the offense was Peterson who got two hits, a double, RBI and scored two runs; Wenske picked up two hits, scored twice, had three RBI and one stolen base. Nerda got two hits, two runs and an RBI; Schuette got one hit and one run while Hailey scored two runs and had three RBI. Lehnert and Shows also had two runs.
