Jason P. Pilat

Jason Pete Pilat, 47, of Shiner, passed away Friday, March 17, 2023.

Jason was born March 21, 1975, in Shiner to Pete and Lois Motal Pilat. He was a life member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church.

Jason grew up in Shiner attending school and working beside his father and siblings learning to farm, raise hogs, cattle and do all the chores to keep it all running efficiently. He took over for his dad upon his father’s passing and excelled with the knowledge he had gained from working alongside his father. He had a deep-rooted passion for farming and ranching and expanded his operations with several leases. Jason couldn’t do it alone, he had his favorite hand, his daughter, Mackinly working beside him as often as he could. It was very clear to Jason that his incredible work ethic was also a recognizable trait in his daughter. He was so proud of her and his grandson Chandler. He adored his grandson and certainly dreamed of the two of them putting up hay and working cattle together one day brought pleasant hope to the future.

Jason was very generous with his time, always helping others in need and volunteering to help kids with their FFA projects. He was a good man, and Jason was a successful man beyond the typical measurements of success. In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, “To leave the world a bit better . . . To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” This was Jason and we are humbled.

Jason is survived by his adoring family, daughter, Mackinly Fay Pilat Kifer (Kolby) of Shiner; mother, Lois Dierschke of Hallettsville; grandson, Chandler Pete-Robert Vasquez of Shiner; sister, Lori Pilat of Ganado; brothers, Michael Pilat of Yoakum, Paul Pilat (Debra) of Hallettsville, Mark Pilat (Melissa) of Hallettsville, Philip Pilat of Shiner and Steven Pilat (Darla) of Shiner.

He was preceded in death by his father.
