Moulton softball: Kittens go 1-1 in district action last week


The Kittens softball beat Bloomington 19-9 and lost to Schulenburg 15-0.

Down 6-5 in the bottom of the third, Moulton scored twice and never looked back in a 19-9 win against Bloomington March 28.
The Kittens went up 9-6 in the fourth box; Bloomington scored twice in the top of the fifth and Moulton scored five in the bottom of the inning and outscored Bloomington 5-1 in the sixth frame.
Bloomington plated five runs in the top of the first; the Kittens answered with three runs in the bottom before scoring two runs in the second to tie the game at 5-5 before Bloomington took a 6-5 lead in top of the third.
Three Kittens got three hits each as part of Moulton’s 14-hit effort: Addison Simper got a two doubles and a triple, plated four runs and three RBI. Araceli Vasquez got a triple and scored three runs while Hope Kirkland has three runs and three RBI on her three hits. Moulton had 27 stolen bases.
Simper pitched for Moulton with 10 hits, nine runs, one batter hit, a dozen walks and 10 strikeouts.
Mary-Clairie O’Leary had six putouts.

Schulenburg held Moulton scoreless and no hits in a 15-0 win on Friday. The Lady Shorthorns led 6-0 after the opening inning, 7-0 after two innings, scored six runs in the third and two more in the fourth to end the game.
O’Leary had two putouts; Simper allowed 15 runs on seven hits with 14 walks and four strikeouts.
