Barbara Jean Kubenka

Barbara Jean Kubenka, 82, of Georgetown passed away early Saturday morning, March 25, 2023.

Not only was she a lovely and extraordinary lady, but she possessed a rare warmth and charm that drew others close to her. She was immensely loved by her family and friends and those who had the pleasure of knowing her were truly blessed.

Barbara was born May 9, 1940 in Shiner to Otto and Adella Fisbeck.

She grew up in Moulton, where she met Leroy Kubenka and the two became high school sweethearts.

Shortly after their marriage in 1958 they moved to several small towns in the central Texas area and began raising their family. After several years, Barbara and Leroy settled in Austin where they lived for 52 years.

Barbara put her passions and talents to work for her family. She had an artistic and innovative eye and could create beauty out of most anything. Her decorating, cooking, and gardening skills were truly amazing. She also worked for several years outside the home with her last job being for KTM Communications, a company created by Leroy and a couple of business friends. She ran the administrative aspects of the business and the company flourished.

Barbara and Leroy retired in 1998 and began traveling and enjoying their grandchildren and extended family. They also enjoyed spending time at their country cabin in Moulton, often referred to as “The Farm.”

In 2021, Barbara and Leroy moved to Georgetown to start a new chapter closer to family. Leroy passed away shortly thereafter and after 62 years of marriage, Barbara began to find her way to new friendships and new beginnings while never forgetting her cherished husband.

Barbara Kubenka (“Grammy” as her grandchildren affectionately named her and known as “Jeanie” to friends and family) was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leroy Kubenka.

She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Alvarado and her husband, James; her son, Scott Kubenka and his wife, Wendy; her four grandchildren, Caroline Harris; Nathan Harris and his wife, Hannah; Anna O’Quinn and her husband, David; and Charlie Kubenka and his wife, Cara. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Natalie Harris, Otto O’Quinn, and Thomas Harris as well as her beloved sisters, Beverly Rudolph and Gayle Culak.

Barbara will never be forgotten, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing and loving her.
