Moulton All Stars team truly IN A LEAGUE ALL HER OWN

Moulton had an 8-year-old Coach Pitch All Star team this year that was something of a first for the Moulton Little League.

You might even say they were “in a league of her own,” to borrow from a familiar movie title, because this allgirls lineup represejmnted Moulton for the first time at the District 31 East Zone Specials Tournament in Cuero.

“We had girls playing softball, so we had two Coach Pitch teams this year,” Coach Claudia Gonzales said. “We practiced together twice a week until games started. The Black and Maroon Moulton teams played each other and four Shiner teams throughout the regular season.”

The tournament started Friday, June2, in Cuero with a double elimination play, Gonzales said.

“We played Hallettsville our first game and lost 2-1. Then we played Luling the next night and won 11-6. That was Luling’s second loss, so they were out of the tournament.

“We headed back to Cuero Sunday for a 5 p.m. game against Shiner. The heat was hard on all the girls but we were able to defeat Shiner 6-4. That was the second loss for Shiner, so they were out of the tournament. We were now down to the final four teams—Moulton, Gonzales, Yoakum, and Cuero.

Monday night they played Gonzales. They had a lightning delay and then a rain delay.

“We were supposed to play at 7 p.m. and didn’t take the field until 8:30. The game stayed close but we did lose 5-2. The girls were disappointed in the loss but we are so proud of their efforts. We are so proud of their abilities and representation of Moulton.

“We will strive to continue sending teams to AllStars and show the East Zone what Moulton is made of,” she said.

Team members include Olivia Gonzales, Bailey Wagner, Dillon Colburn, Joyce West, Hope Pierce, Hazel Pierce, Gracie Stringer, April Hernandez, Madden Moore, Hailey Starr, Karoline Claybourn, and Skyra Kalisek.
