Major Girls Win East Zone Championship

Another outstanding pitching performance Paelyn Etzler carried the Hallettsville major league all stars to a 3-2 victory over Shiner in the finals of the District 31 East Zone Tournament Monday night.

Etzler gave up three hits, walked three and struck out four. Both Shiner runs were earned.

Hallettsville scored two runs in the top of the fifth for a 3-0 lead before holding off Shiner.

Hallettsville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Ava Caldwell singled before scoring on an error.

In the fifth inning, Caitynn Halata walked and Etzler ensued with a double and with Heidi Grahmann driving in both with a base hit.

Etzler’s counterpart, Taylor Kocian, struck out eight, walked two and ceded four hits.

Kayla Kurtz had Hallettsville’s other hit, a first inning single.

H’ville 2, Shiner 1

All the scoring came in the first inning in the Hallettsville Major League All-Stars’ 2-1 victory over Shiner Saturday evening

Shiner scored in the first inning on a base hit and overthrow of third base.

Hallettsville responded in the bottom of the inning. Kayla Kurtz, walked, stole second and scored on an opposite triple to right by Caitynn Halata. Christine Felcman drove in what proved to be the winning run with a base hit to right field on a 0-2 pitch.

Paelyn Etzler and Shiner’s Taylor Kocian hooked up in pitcher’s duel with both hurlers pitching a complete game.

Etzler ceded three hits, struck out 10 and walked one. The lone Shiner run was unearned.

Kocian gave up four hits, also struck out nine and free-passed one.

Etzler had to pitch out of two jams. Shiner had runners on second and third with no outs before Etzler struck out the next three batters in the second inning. The same situation occurred in the sixth inning, but Etzler got the next three
