Yoakum softball: Caka sees regular action in UHV 2023 softball season

Yoakum graduate and University of Houston-Victoria senior and softball second baseman Lauren Caka was pretty busy during the softball season as she saw action in 44 of 46 UHV games as the Lady Jaguars posted a 28-18 record and reached the conference tournament semifinals.
Caka’s first action came in the first game of a double header against Central Baptist (Arkansas) Feb. 3 in San Antonio. UHV won 5-2 with Caka going 2-for-3, one RBI, one sacrifice flyout, two total bases, one groundout, one flyout and a groundout/flyout of 1.00 in four plate appearances. In the field, she had one putout and one assist on two chances for 1.00 fielding.
Later that day, UHV fell to Central Baptist 3-1; Caka was 1-for-2, one sacrifice bunt, one total base,one groundout, one flyout and a groundout/flyout of 1.00 in three plate appearances.
Caka returned to action on Feb. 10 in Lecompte, La. In a 3-0 win over Mobile. She was 0-for-1, one strikeout, one hit by pitch, one sacfrifice bunt and one groundout in three plate appearances. In the field, Caka had seven chances, four putouts, three assists and 1.00 fielding.
On the same day, UHV fell short to Georgi Gwinnet in Alexandria, La.  9-1 in six innings.
Caka hit 0-for-2 with one run, one walk, one strikeout and one groundout in three plate appearances. On defense, she had one putout and two assists on three chances for 1.00 fielding.
In a UHV 9-0 win in five innings over Schreiner University Feb. 14 at home in the first game of a doubleheader, Caka had one RBI, two walks, one sacrifice flyout and three flyouts in three appearances at the plate. In the field, she had one chance and one putout for 1.00 fielding.
In the second game, UHV fell 4-2 with Caka going 1-for-2, one walk, one strikeout and one total base on three plate appearances.
Caka next saw action in road doubleheader vs Our Lady of the Lake on Feb. 18. In the first game, UHV fell 5-3 in eight innings as Caka scored one run, had one walk and one strikeout in four plate appearances.
In the second game, OLLU won 12-9 with Caka going 1-for-4, one run, one double, one RBI, one stolen base, two total bases and one extra base hit in four plate appearances. In the field, Caka had two putouts and one error on three chances for .667 fielding.
In game one of a doubleheader at University of St. Thomas (Texas) on Feb. 21, Caka was 1-for-4, one RBI, one stolen base, one total base and two groundouts in four plate appearances. In the field, she has two putouts and two assists on four chances for 1.00 fielding. UHV won the game 9-5.
UHV came up short 8-1 in the second game as Caka went 2-for-3, two total bases and one flyout in three plate appearances and had three assists, one putout and one error on five chances for .800 fielding.
The Lady Jaguars traveled to Gulf Shores, Ala. for the Gulf Coast Invitational March 3-5 and Caka played in several of the games.
Against Webber International (Florida) on March 3, UHV won 3-0 and Caka was 0-for-3, one walk, one strikeout, one groundout, one flyout and 1.00 groundout/flyout on four plate appearances. In the field, She had two assists on two chances for 1.00 fielding.
UHV came up short to Blue Mountain Christian (Mississippi) later on March 6-4 with Caka going 1-for-5, one RBI, one total bases and four flyouts on five plate appearances, and nine total chances on defense with four putouts, five assists and one double play for 1.00 fielding.
Against Cumberlands (Kentucky) on March 4, the Lady Jaguars lost 10-2 in five innings with Caka going -0-for-3 with one flyout in three plate appearances and in the field, she had one assist on one chance for 1.00 fielding.
UHV lost to Central Methodist (Missouri) March 4 11-1 in five innings with Caka going 0-for-3 and three flyouts on three plate appearances.
UHV picked up an 8-7 win against Faulkner (Alabama) on March 5; Caka hit 0-for-3 with one RBI, one walk, one strikeout one sacrifice bunt and three groundouts in five plate appearances. In the field, she had three chances, two putouts and one assist for 1.00 fielding.
Caka took part in both games of an away doubleheader against Southwest on May 10.
In the first game, UHV won 2-1 and Caka was 0-for-3 with one walk and two flyouts in four plate appearances; she had four chances on defense, two putouts and two assists for 1.00 fielding.
In the second game, a 3-2 win for UHV, Caka was 1-for-3, one RBI, one total base, one groundout, one flyout and a 1.00 groundout/flyout on three plate appearances. In the field, she had four chances, two putouts and two assists for 1.00 fielding.
On March 14, UHV split a doubleheader at Texas A&M-San Antonio with Caka playing in both games.
In the first game, UHV took a 5-3 win with Caka going 2-for-2, one RBI, two walks and two total bases on four plate appearances. In the second game, UHV lost 9-1 in six innings. Caka went 2-for-2 with one walk and two total bases on three plate appearances; on defense, she had two chances, one putout, one assist for 1.00 fielding.
The Lady  Jags swept a home doubleheader against Jarvis Christian on March 17. In the first game, UHV took a 1-0 win with Caka going 0-for-3 with three flyouts on three plate appearances. In the field, she had seven chances, five putouts, one assist, one double play and one error for .857 fielding.
In game two, a 2-1 win for UHV, Caka was 1-for-3, one walk, one total base and two flyouts on four plate appearances. In the field, she had five chances, two putouts and three assists for 1.00 fielding.
Caka’s next action came in a home doubleheader vs Huston-Tillotson on March 24. In the first game, UHV earned a 2-1 win with Caka going 1-for-3, one double one RBI, two total bases, one extra-base hit and a groundout in three plate appearances. She had six chances in the field for five putouts, one assist and 1.00 fielding.
In the second game, UHV won in a 5-0 shutout with Caka going 0-for-3 with one groundout, two flyouts and a .50 groundout/flyout in three plate appearances. On the defense she had eight chances, three putouts, five assists, one double play and 1.00 fielding.
On March 28, UHV  hosted Our Lady of the Lake in a doubleheader.
In the first game, UHV lost 2-0 with Caka going 1-for-2 with one walk, one total base and one flyout in three plate appearances. On defense, she made three putouts on three chances for 1.00 fielding.
In game two, UHV lost 3-2 as Caka hit 2-for-3, one sacrifice bunt, two total bases and one groundout on four plate appearances. In the field, she had five putouts, one assist and one double play on six chances for 1.00 fielding.
UHV started April with a doubleheader at LSU-Alexandria on April 1, winning both games.
In a 2-1 win in nine innings in game one, Caka hit 1-for-4 with one total base and three groundouts on four plate appearances. In the field, she had six chances, three putouts and three assists for 1.00 fielding.
UHV took the second game 9-7 with Caka going 0-for-2 with one run, one RBI, one walk, one strikeout, one sacrifice bunt and two groundouts in four plate appearances. On defense, she had eight chances, three putouts, four assists and one error for .875 fielding.
On April 2, UHV went to Texas A&M Texarkana for a doubleheader, falling in both games.
In game one, UHV lost 6-2 and Caka was 1-for-4 with one total base, one groundout, two flyouts and a .50 groundout/flyout on four plate appearances.
The Lady Jaguars fell 4-0 in game two with Caka going 1-for-3, one total base and two groundouts in three plate appearances; in the field, she had four chances, one putout, two assists and one error for .750 fielding.
UHV welcomed Texas College for a doubleheader on April 18 with UHV taking a sweep.
In the first game, a 9-0 victory in five innings, Caka was 2-for-3, three RBI, two total bases and one flyout in three plate appearances. On defense, she had three putouts on three chances for 1.00 fielding.
In the second game, UHV won 7-5 with Caka batting 2-for-4, one RBI, two total bases and two groundouts in four place appearances. In the field, she had two chances and two putouts for 1.00 fielding.
The Lady Jags hosted Louisiana Christian in a doubleheader on April 21. UHV lost the first game 6-4 with Caka going 1-for-4 with one run, one strikeout, one total base, one groundout, one flyout, 1.00 groundout/flyout on four plate appearances. In the field, she had five chances, four putouts, one assist and 1.00 fielding.
UHV bounced back to win the second game 6-3. She was 0-for-4 with one run, one strikeout, one stolen base and two flyouts in four appearances. On the defensive side, Caka had four chances, four putouts and 1.00 fielding.
UHV hosted Xavier (Louisiana) on April 22 in a doubleheader, winning both games.
The Lady Jags won the first game 9-0 in five innings with Caka going 1-for-1 with one double, one RBI, one walk, one sacrifice bunt, two total bases, one extra-base hit and one groundout in three plate appearances. In the field, she had three putouts on three chances for 1.00 fielding.
In the second game, UHV won 9-1 in six frames with Caka going 0-for-2 with one run, two walks, one groundout, one flyout and 1.00 groundout/flyout on four plate appearances. On defense, she had four chances, three putouts and one assist for 1.00 fielding.
UHV split a home doubleheader against Texas A&M San Antonio on April 26.
In the first game, UHV won 3-2 and Caka was 0-for-1 with one RBI, one sacrifice flyout, one sacrifice bunt, one groundout, two flyouts and .50 groundout/flyout on three plate appearances. In the field, she had four chances, three putouts, one assist and 1.00 fielding.
UHV lost the second game 8-3 with Caka going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI, one strikeout, four total bases, two extra-base hits and one groundout on four plate appearances. On defense, she had four chances, three putouts and one error for .750 fielding.
UHV closed out the regular season with home doubleheader against Southwest on April 29.

 In the second game, UHV got by with a 10-8 with as Caka was 1-for-3 with one run, one RBI, one walk, one strikeout, one stole base, one total base, one groundout on four plate appearances. Defensively, she had seven chances, three putouts and four assists on 1.00 fielding.
The Lady Jags opened RRAC (Red River Athletic Conference) tournament play in San Antonio May 4 against LSU Alexandria. UHV took a 2-0 win and Caka was 0-for-3 with one RBI, one groundout, one flyout and a 1.00 groundout/flyout on three plate appearances. In the field, she had two chances for one putout and one assist for 1.00 fielding.
On May 5, UHV lost to hosts Our Lady of the Lake 10-3 with Caka hitting 0-for-3, one strikeout, one groundout, one flyout and 1.00 groundout/flyout on three plate appearances. In the field, she had four chances, three putouts, one assist and 1.00 fielding.
The Lady Jags rebounded with a 2-0 win over Texas A&M Texarkana on May 5. Caka was 0-for-3 with one RBI, one groundout, one flyout and a 1.00 groundout/flyout on three plate appearances. Defensively, Caka had three chances, two putouts, one assist and 1.00 fielding.
The Lady Jags avoided elimination and advanced into the semifinals with a 9-8 win over Louisiana Christian on May 6. Caka was 0-for-3 with two sacrifice bunts, three groundouts, two flyouts and 1.50 groundout/flyout on five plate appearances. In the field, she had five chances, four putouts and one assist for 1.00 fielding.
In the tournament semifinals, UHV fell to Our Lady of the Lake 7-5 on May 6. Caka was 1-for-2 with one run, one walk, one strikeout, one sacrifice bunt, one total base and one groundout on four plate appearances. In the field, Caka had five chances, four putouts and one assist for 1.00 fielding.
Caka’s totals for the seasons was 44 games played; hitting, she was 34-for-124, 10 runs, five doubles, 21 RBI, 19 walks, 14 strikeouts, three stolen bases, .274 batting, .367 on base, .329 slugging, one hit by pitch, three sacrifice flyouts, 10 sacrifice bunts, 39 total bases, five extra-base hits, 38 groundouts, 38 flyouts, 1.00 groundout/flyout and 157 plate appearances. In the field, she had 162 total chances, 97 putouts, 59 assists, six errors, five double plays and .963 fielding.
