Loretta Krejci
Loretta Schelling Krejci, 74, of Shiner, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023.
Visitation will be held from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, August 18 at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home in Yoakum.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 19 at United Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Shiner, with Rev. Chris Heinold officiating.
Interment will follow at Shiner Cemetery under the direction of Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home, Yoakum.
Pallbearers are Kevin Schelling, Robert Craig Schelling, Michael Wachsmann, Christopher Schelling, Joseph Schelling, and Charles Zapalac, Jr.
Honorary pallbearers are David Wachsmann, Joshua Benware, Robert Phillips, Jeffery Epperson, Robert James Schelling, Evan Schelling, and Charles Zapalac.
She was born in 1948 in Shiner, to Homer and Evelyn (McGinty) Schelling.
Loretta was baptized on December 5, 1948 and was later confirmed on March 15, 1962 by the late Pastor E. J. Oehlke at United Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church where she remained a member until her passing. She was an active member of Shiner Lutheran Church serving in many capacities throughout her time including as a member of the church council, a member and president of the Ladies’ Aid, and a teacher for Sunday School.
Loretta participated in quilting for Lutheran World Relief and in gifting quilts to high school seniors, and she sewed paraments for the church. In addition, she quilted angels that are displayed during the Advent and Christmas seasons. She also visited with church members who were residing in nursing homes.
Loretta graduated from Shiner High School in 1966. After graduation, she worked for Humble Oil in Houston until returning to live in Shiner. She married Bernard J. Krejci and they were blessed with one daughter, Melba.
She worked for Tex Tan Western Leather in Yoakum, and moved to Yoakum for several years before returning to live in Shiner in 1976. She worked in different positions throughout her years with Tex Tan Western Leather with the last being in accounts receivables. She transitioned to Tandy Brands Accessories where she worked as a payroll clerk until her retirement.
During her retirement years, Loretta traveled throughout the United States exploring her interests in different cultures and taking in the scenery. She enjoyed quilting and sewing and was a member of multiple quilt guilds. She worked as needed at Martha’s Quilting Corner in Shiner. She was a member of the Shiner Pilot Club and the Red Hat Society. She joined several social groups that shared her interest in crocheting, knitting, and weaving.
Survivors include her daughter, Melba Krejci of Bryan; brother, Homer Schelling, Jr. of Portland; nieces and nephews; grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Mabel J. (Schelling) Michalk; and brother-in-law, James Michalk.
