Indians host Rosehill Christian Faith

A new era of Sacred Heart football begins when Alex Seydler makes his debut as head coach when the Indians host Tomball Rosehill Faith Christian Academy in a 7 p.m. start Friday night.

The Indians and Eagles will meet for the fourth year in a row.

The Eagles won last year’s game, 20-13 in the final seconds.

The Eagles were 4-7 and return 8/7 from that 2022 team.

QB Trey Walker runs the offense for the Eagles. Walker threw for 1,150 yards and 10 TDs plus rushed for 315 yards last season.

All-state lineman Blake Straten (195), and Raymond Ramirez (250) play on both sides of the football and halfback Kenny Nelson, LB/DB Ricky Beran are also key figures.

“Faith will be a formidable foe,” Seydler said. “They scrimmaged a good Somerville team that is really strong up front on both sides of the football and fundamentally sound,” Seydler said. “Their head coach has done this for a long time at a high level and he will have them ready to play.”

The Eagles run multiple formations under center or out of the gun using a variety of slots and wings with motion. “They love to run screens and that will be a point of emphasis in practice this week,” Seydler said. “Bottom line, we are going to have to play a clean game with great effort in all three phases of the game to give ourselves a chance to be successful."

In the Danbury scrimmage here Thursday the Indians scored multiple touchdowns.

“Overall, I was extremely encouraged by our performance,” Seydler said. “We were able to move the ball in the air and on the ground and defensively we didn’t allow them to drive the ball.

“Bottom line, we are a better team than last week. We have a few things to clean up such as pre-snap penalties and such, but my outlook is very hopeful as we start the season.”
