Shiner volleyball: Shiner spikers finish second in Silver bracket at tournament
The Shiner Lady Comanches volleyball team finished second place in the Silver Bracket of the Cuero/Goliad “Battle on 183” tournament, posting a 4-2 record.
Pool B (Thursday)
The Lady Comanches played Sinton, Orange Grove and Jourdanton in Pool B play, winning two and losing one.
Sinton 2, Shiner 0
The Lady Comanches started off against Sinton, and the Lady Pirates won in two 25-23, 25-18.
Shiner 2, Orange Grove 0
Shiner came back in the second match, defeating Orange Grove in a sweep, 25-22, 25-16.
Shiner 2, Jourdanton 1
Shiner ended pool play with a 25-23, 18-25, 15-12 win over Jourdanton.
Silver Bracket (Saturday)
Shiner beat Beeville in the first round of the Silver Bracket, defeated Yoakum in the Silver semifinals and lost to Victoria East in the Silver championship match.
Shiner 2, Beeville 1
The Lady Comanches defeated Beeville 25-21, 22-25, 15-5 to open silver bracket play.
Meghan Blaschke had 12 assists, four digs, one kill; Aimee Mitchon had seven kills, two digs, one ace, one block; Callie Sevcik added four digs, three kills, two aces two assists; Rylee Vancura produced 11 assists, 10 kills, six digs, two blocks, one ace; Chelsea Whiddon had six digs, two aces, two kills, two assists, one block; JaMya Wright had four kills; Morgan Lenehan had two kills, one block; Klynn Ramirez had five digs; Chesney Machacek came up with four kills, one dig; Charlotte Grosenbacher had six digs; Erin Hajek finished with one assist.

The Lady Comanches downed Yoakum in three sets, 25-23, 18-25, 15-5. Blaschke had 12 assists, two digs; Mitchon totaled seven kills, seven digs, two blocks; Sevcik recorded five digs, three aces, two kills; Vancura had 10 kills, seven digs, six assists, one ace; Whiddon had nine digs, four kills, two aces, one block; Wright added one block; Lenehan had two kills, one dig; Ramirez had four digs, two kills, one ace.
Machacek had one kill, one block, one dig; Grosenbacher had four digs.
Hajek chipped in three assists, one dig.
Victoria East 2, Shiner 0
The Lady Comanches finished runner up in the bracket after Victoria East got a 20-25, 25-19, 25-20 win.
Blaschke had eight assists, four digs, three aces; Mitchon had three digs, one kill, one block; Sevcik had nine digs, six kills; Vancura provided 10 digs, seven kills, six assists; Whiddon had 13 digs, nine kills, two blocks, one assist.
Wright had four kills, one block.Lenehan booked two blocks, one kill, one dig; Machacek had three kills; Grosenbacher contributed 10 digs, one assist.
Hajek had five assists and Brooke Palmer had four digs.
Shiner hosted Faith Academy on Tuesday of this week and plays at Industrial tomorrow.
