Brahmas Raze Bulldogs
You can bet Flatonia will not be on the Hallettsville Brahmas’ schedule next fall.
Hallettsville razed the Bulldogs in dominate fashion in a 43-0 victory in its home opener here Friday night.
The Brahmas topped their season-opening 404 yards with 424 yards - 246 rushing and 178 passing.
Halfback Jashaun Price rushed for 102 yards on 15 carries and two touchdowns.
Quarterback Jorian Wilson accounted for 195 yards. Wilson completed 6 of 9 passes for 178 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for another.
Layne Gerke had 3 receptions for 109 yards and one score and Rashuan Sidney 3 for 69 yards and one touchdown.
The Hallettsville defense was also in tune and gave up just 39 yards and the Brahmas never allowed the Bulldogs to cross midfield.
Hallettsville recovered four fumbles and intercepted a pass.
“I was proud of the overall hustle and the way we were flying to the football,” Brahma head coach Levi Montgomery said. “It was a complete team effort, but we still have a lot of things to clean up, especially turnovers.”
The Brahmas scored with just 46 seconds elapsed on the clock. On the Bulldogs’ first play, Sidney picked off a pass and returned it 20 yards to the Bulldog 24. On the very next play, Wilson flipped a short pass to Gerke who took it in for the score. Ty Tomek kicked the first of his five extra points.
A 27-yard punt return by Gerke set up the Brahmas on the Bulldog 33. Wilson scored on a 13- yard run on the fifth play to cap the drive.
The Brahmas led 21-0 at the end of the first period after Sidney gathered in a 62-yard touchdown pass from Wilson.
The score was upped to 35-0 at the half after Gerke caught a 64-yard scoring pass from Wilson and Price went in from 12 yards out to end a 6-play, 67-yard drive.
Price scored the final touchdown of the game on a 20-yard run with 5:45 left in the third quarter.
“Another good thing that came out of this game is everybody got a chance play,” Montgomery said.
