'Nettes Cop Open-District Victory

AUSTIN– The Sacred Heart Indianettes bounced back from the Weimar sweep with a 25-9, 25-21, 25-16 victory over Austin San Juan Diego in the district opener for both teams Thursday.

Junior outside Annika Brooks had a big night with 19 kills.

The Indianettes advanced to 11-8 and 1-0.

“They were a very good defensive team,” coach Wanda Orsak said. “After the first set they got going and were digging a lot of our attacks leading to some long rallies. It was a great way to start district.”

The Indianettes dropped a 3-0 decision to Weimar in Weimar Tuesday, Aug. 29.

Elena Grahmann was the bright spot for SH with 11 assists, 2 blocks, 3 digs, an ace and 2 kills.

“We decided not to play the first set,” coach Wanda Orsak said. “Once we got going we didn’t play bad, but we didn’t play with any fire which is what wins close matches.”
