Indians Start the Season 4-0 for the First Time since 2015

It is plain to see the Sacred Heart Indians are doing everything right.

Louise offered little resistance in the Indians’ 38-0 Homecoming victory here Friday night.

With the win, the Indians are 4-0 for the first time since 2015.

By ground or by air, the Indians prospered with 312 yards of total offense to the Hornets’ 171, and great field position. The Hornets didn’t make a first down until the 5:54 mark of the second period. Louise had just 33 snaps through three periods and 46 for the game.

Quarterback Andrew Steffek threw for three touchdowns and ran for another. All three touchdown passes were to wide out Nic Angerstein. He threw for 180 yards with 11 of 18 passing.

Angerstein had another big night with three touchdown receptions, a 45-yard field goal along with a punt return for 38 yards and a pass interception.

Halfback Brady Haas led all ball carriers with 75 yards on 8 carries and one touchdown.

The Indians have not had a turnover the last three games.

“We started the game with high energy and focus,” head coach Alex Seydler said. “We performed well in all three phases of the game. Defensively, we made things hard for them all night and made them work for every single yard. I was especially proud of the goal line stand. Offensively, we did a good job adjusting as the game went on. Our passing game was extremely effective by extending drives and generating multiple big plays.”

SH scored on its first two possessions, the first after Angerstein’s punt return gave the Indians the ball at the Louise 35. A penalty stalled the drive and the Indians settled for Angerstein’s 45-yard field goal.

On its next possession, the Indians drove 28 yards in 5 plays. Steffek threw to Angerstein for 21 yards before scoring himself on a 2-yard run for a 14-0 lead with 3:57 left in the first quarter.

In the waning seconds of the first period, the Indians put together a 54- yard, 4-play drive capped by Brady Haas’s 24-yard run. A 26-yard pass to Klayton Chance was the big play in the march for a 17-0 lead.

The Indians extended the lead to 24-0 at the intermission with Angerstein scoring on a 5-yard scoring catch to end a 53-yard, 8-play drive. The big plays in the drive passes covering 13 and 18 yards to Brady Haas and a 14- yard pass to Clayton Haas.

The Indians kept pouring it on with two third-quarter touchdowns. The first came after the longest drive of the night covered 65 yards which took four minutes and nine seconds off the clock.

The payoff came on a 15-yard touchdown pass to Angerstein, who made the catch with a defender draped all over him.

The second touchdown was scored by Angerstein on a 39-yard pass from Steffek with three minutes to go.

A goal line stand kept the Hornets out of the end zone in the fourth stanza. Louise had first-and-goal on the Indian 3 and ended up giving back the ball on the 7.
