SH Takes Over Sole Possession of 1st

The Sacred Heart Gym was rockin’ Thursday night as the Indianettes banished St. Paul 25-16, 25-21, 25-16 to take over sole possession of first place in TAPPS District 5 Division IV.

The cream rose to the top with Annika Brooks putting on quite a show for the Indianettes. The 6-2 junior outside produced 21 kills, 2 aces, 4 blocks along with 8 digs in the match.

“We focused on staying aggressive to defeat a strong St. Paul team,” coach Wanda Orsak said.

Brooks had 7 kills in the first set and Ava Lackey 3. After four ties, the last at 11, SH began to separate themselves from SP and finished the set with a 14-6 run for a 25-16 win.

The second set was pretty competitive. The teams were tied at 8-all prior to the Indianettes scoring 5 unanswered points for a 15-9 advantage. SP would rallied later and whittle the lead to 23-20 before kills by Lackey and Brooks finished the set at 25-21.

The Indianettes were up 14-12 in Set No. 3 before going on a 5-0 run which was paced by kills from Brooks and Rylan Dworsky and block and kill by Anneliese Noska.

Both teams had 3 missed serves.

Note: Annika Brooks averaged 6.7 kills per set last week.

WALDORF ........15 23 21

Austin Waldorf put up a good fight before succumbing 3-0 here Tuesday, Sept. 19.

“We were a lot stronger than they were, but we did not play a good match” coach Wanda Orsak said. “We kept making mistakes to leave them in the match.”

SH led 15-13 in the first set before pulling away with a 10-2 run. Rylan Dworsky had two aces during the rally and Annika Brooks 2 kills.

The Roadrunners started getting tough in the second set and had a 9-7 lead at one point. SH came back and gained a 15-15 tie prior to scoring three unanswered points to take the lead for good for a 25-23 victory.

Brooks had 5 kills and a block in the set.

Waldorf jumped out to an 11-7 lead in set No. 3. The Indianettes pulled even at 12-12 before 4 unanswered points gave them a lead they would not relinquish.

Brooks had 8 kills and Elena Grahmann 5 in the third set.

SH had 6 missed serves and 11 attack errors and Waldorf 4 service errors.

Grahmann had a double-double with 20 assists and 10 digs.
