Indians Cruise to Another Win
The Sacred Heart Indians took no prisoners in the 41-8 victory over Magnolia Legacy Prep here Friday night.
The Indians amassed 330 yards of total offense in going to 7-0 for the first time since 2011.
“It was another strong performance by our kids. They played with great energy and tenacity throughout the entire game,”head coach Alex Seydler said. “I can’t say enough positive things about the defense and how it performed. It played lights out again, doing an excellent job of generating pressure on the QB and making things uncomfortable for him by taking him off of his spot.”
The Indians rushed for 192 yards on 41 attempts and quarterback Andrew Steffek threw for 138 yards and scored twice on runs of 2 and 5 yards and gained 59 yardsrushing on 8 tries. His lone touchdown pass was a 19 yarder to tight end Klayton Chance.
Halfback Brady Haas narrowly missed rushing for 100 yards and ended up with 98 yards on 19 carries and one touchdown.
Nic Angerstein kicked field goals of 20 and 28 yards and caught 4 passes for 60 yards.
The Indians moved the chains 20 times and didn’t run many plays from behind the sticks. The Lions had 4 first downs and a paltry 78 yards on the contest.
The Indians didn’t get the ball in the end zone until second period.Two drives in the first quarter bogged down at the Legacy 5- and 11- yard line and Angerstein kicked two field goals.
The Indians scored three touchdowns in the second period, one on an interception return.
The first came after a 73-yard, 9-play drive with all but one play coming on the ground which was a 24-yard pass to Angerstein. Brady Haas had a gain of 10 yards and Andrew Steffek ran for 16 yards and then scored on a 2-yard run. Angerstein kicked the first of his 5 extra points.
With 6:23 remaining in the second, corner back Hudson returned an interception 32 yards for the touchdown.
On its next possession, Sacred Heart was the beneficiary of good field position at the Legacy 36 and drove the distance in 5 plays. Chance hauled in a pass on the sideline and hot-footed it 19 yards for the touchdown with the scoreboard clock showing 2:35 left in the first half for a 27-0 lead.
SH scored on its first possession of the second half with Brady Haas going in from the 1. Big plays were a 26-yard pass to Kutac and 21 yards to Angerstein.
The lone fourth quarter touchdown came following a 50-yard drive that took 9 plays with Andrew Steffek scoring on a 5-yard run.
The Lions scored midway through the fourth on a 5-yard pass from quarterback Wyatt Francis to Kyle Prazek.
