Ray Michalec
Ray Michalec, 70, of Shiner, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
A rosary was recited at 6 p.m. Friday, October 20 at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 21 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moulton, with the Rev. Gabriel Maison officiating.
Burial followed at Moulton Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home, Yoakum.
Pallbearers were Derek Kovalcik, Tim Henke, Ryan Machacek, Russell Machacek, Doug Irvin, Garrett Kutac, Gary Kusak and Ronnie Darilek.
He was born November 13, 1952 in Shiner to George and Emmie Hustede Michalec.
Ray grew up on the family farm in Henkhaus. He was a farmer and dedicated hard working mechanic for Shiner John Deere for 46 years until his retirement in August of 2019. He then continued working out of his shop at the Michalec family farm.
He was always ready to offer a helping hand or advice. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moulton. He was the co-chairman of the stew cooking crew for the Moulton church picnic. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and spending quality time with family.
Survivors include wife of almost 50 years, Mary Kovalcik Michalec; daughters, Donna Jacobs (Curtis) and Rhonda Leftwich (Brandon); grandchildren, Zachary Jacobs (Emily), Emmie Leftwich and Levi Leftwich; and great-grandchildren, Paetyn Jacobs and Copelynn Jacobs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Castro; and a nephew, Brent Castro.
Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of South Texas or St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moulton.
