Carolyn Schroeder
Carolyn Schroeder, 75, of Shiner, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023.
Carolyn was born September 19, 1948, in Shiner, to William and Annie Vincik Schroeder. Carolyn was a member of the United Evangelical Lutheran Dr. Martin Luther Church in Shiner, where she had been active with the Altar Guild and the Shiner Heritage Quilt Guild.
Carolyn was a life-long resident of Shiner. She graduated from Shiner High School in 1967 and attended the Baldwin Business School in Yoakum. She went to work for the Texas Department of Transportation in Yoakum and retired in 2003 with 36 ½ years of dedicated service.
Carolyn enjoyed traveling with her twin sister Marilyn. Together they traveled through twenty-one states with Elsie’s Tours out of Seguin. She loved to sew and make quilts. Being devoted to her church, Carolyn and Marilyn were often sewing quilts for Lutheran World Relief. Together they frequently sewed clothes for their extended family members. Idle hands were never a concern for Carolyn, she always kept herself busy working in their flower beds or garden. She and Marilyn were often celebrated for their delicious fruit cake as well.
Carolyn was always loving and caring and when necessary, a bit feisty. She met her battle with Parkinson’s Disease with that same feisty attitude. She took up boxing to slow the progression of the Parkinson’s symptoms. She owned her own pair of boxing gloves to use on the speed bag and heavy bag. Carolyn beat back the disease through boxing for as long as she could. In his book, To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee wrote “Real courage is when you know you’re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.” Carolyn was courageous in life and left behind a legacy of love for others.
She is survived by her adoring twin sister, Marilyn Schroeder of Shiner; and numerous beloved cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
