'Nettes Stymied by GCA

Halloween night proved fatal for Sacred Heart in its TAPPS Division IV area playoff match with Greenville Christian here Tuesday, Oct. 31.

The Indianettes won the first set, 25-19, but the Lady Lions took the next three 26-24, 25-22, 25-22.

“We started out fine, but let them come back to take the second set,” coach Wanda Orsak said. “They had a great defensive team and we lacked discipline in our defense.”

The Indianettes (20-10) committed 22 errors in the final three sets.

The Indianettes won the first set handily after building a 7-0 lead at the onset. Annika Brooks led the win with 5 kills and Elena Grahmann had 3.

Things started going haywire in the second set when SH blew a 21-14 lead. The Eagles scored 6 unanswered points to narrow the gap to 21-20. The Indianettes took a 23-20 advantage before a service error and kills by Rachael Pearce and Kenzie Gladden knotted the score at 23-all. The score was tied at 24 after a SH serving miscue before a kill by Pearce and a service error ended the set for a 26-24 victory.

The ’Nettes had a 19- 15 advantage in the third set before it evaporated after an 8-1 run by the Lions. The Lions won the set, 25-22.

There were 6 ties in set four. The Lions held a 24-18 margin before the Indianettes scored 5 points in a row. The set ended, 25-23, with a kill by Gladden.

Brooks had a matchhigh 16 kills for the Indianettes and Elena Grahmann 10. Grahmann ended her career with a triple double with 19 assist and 15 digs.

Gladden led the Lions with 13 successful swings and Pearce had 12.
