Bulldogs lose to Brahmas to end the season

The Yoakum Bulldogs visited the Hallettsville Brahmas this past Friday night to close out District 12-3A play. The Bulldogs and Brahmas added another exciting chapter to this storied Lavaca County rivalry as Hallettsville overcame a 18-0 deficit to win this year's edition of the game 29-25 and also clinch the third seed in the upcoming playoffs. Yoakum will now be the fourth seed and play Lorena in College Station at A&M Consolidated's Tigerland Stadium this Thursday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs will be the home team

Bulldogs' quarterback Zach Taylor threw for nearly 200 yards with X'Zavier Barnett the leading receiver with seven catches for 113 yards. Qyion Williams led the Bulldog rushing attack with 113 yards and two touchdowns and also snagged an interception on defense. Ty Gordon and Taylor added one touchdown a piece on the ground as well. The Bulldogs were led defensively by Trae Cuellar with seven tackles.

The Bulldogs and Brahmas traded body blows in the first quarter but both came away scoreless as the quarter ended in a 0-0 tie. Yoakum however was able to punch it into the end zone with a Taylor 15- yard touchdown at the 10:23 mark in the second quarter. The Sanchez extra point would be no good though making the score 6-0 for the Bulldogs.

After a missed field goal attempt by the Brahmas, the Bulldogs scored their second touchdown of the game with Gordon doing the honors from three yards out. The Dogs' two-point attempt was no good so the lead now was 12-0 with 1:23 remaining in the first half. Yoakum would score once again with Williams running in from two yards out. Yoakum once again would fail to convert the twopoint attempt making the score 18-0 with 2:57 in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter would belong to the Brahmas as they scored 29 points. Their first touchdown of the game was a 24-yard pass and they also converted the two-point attempt to bring the score to 18-8 Yoakum early in the fourth quarter.

Following a Yoakum punt, the Brahmas were able to strike again after a five-play drive with Wilson taking it in for a two-yard touchdown. The extra point was good and the lead now shrunk to 18-15 with 4:39 remaining in the game.

Yoakum answered back quickly as Williams raced through the Brahmas' defense for a 96- yard touchdown run. The extra point was good adding to the Bulldogs' lead 25-15 with 4:22 remaining in the game.

Hallettsville would answer on their next possession as running back Price ran in for a six yard score. The extra point added on made the score 25-22 in favor of Yoakum with only 2:56 remaining in the game.

Yoakum taking over at their own 25 would be hit with a 15-yard penalty and after a short running play, Taylor would be intercepted giving the Brahmas the ball at the Yoakum 31. Brahmas' quarterback Wilson needed one play for the go ahead touchdown as he scampered in from 31 yards away

The extra point gave the Brahmas a 29-25 lead with only 1:39 left in the game. The Bulldogs had one last drive to win the game but Taylor would be picked off again ending the Bulldogs' chances. Hallettsville would run two plays and kill the remaining time for the win.
