New church comes to Yoakum
A new non-denominational church has branched out to the City of Yoakum. Faith Family Church opened its doors to Yoakum citizens and started services on Aug. 13.
“We started organizing for the church back in March. There were about a half dozen people that got together to get this thing started,” FFC Pastor Steve Bowman said. “It’s been great so far. The fact that we were building it from the ground up, everyone feels like that they have a role in this church. It’s a real family atmosphere over here and it’s really brought us closer as a congregation.”
Faith Family Church started in Victoria and then branched out to Hallettsville, Gonzales, and now Yoakum. There are about 50 people attending the church so far on any given Sunday and Pastor believes the church has much room for growth.
“The City of Yoakum has been giving us great feedback,” Bowman said. “We like to feel that we’re a church for people who don’t have a church. We’re very welcoming, very open, and not judgmental. We have people from all walks of life who come and we hope they feel comfortable from the day they walk in.
“We truly want to make it feel like a family. When people show up, at least two people will meet them before they even hit the door. We provide coffee and donuts for people who come in, we’re very casual. We want to put the Bible in terms that people can understand.”
The church has already put its foot in the door with community involvement. Recently, the church band performed at the Fields of Faith event at Bobcat Stadium back in October
“The fact that our praise group was only two months old at the time, it was pretty special,” Bowman said.
Bowman started his ministry in 2004 and has pastored churches in Kansas and other areas in Texas. He also has been a director with Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
FFC hopes to expand to more communities around the surrounding areas. They meet for Sunday morning services and, on Wednesday evenings, there’s a Bible study and a special youth service. The church is located at 722 Front St.
