County takes over birth, death records for Yoakum
Commissioners approved the transfer of birth and death records from the City of Yoakum to the DeWitt County Clerk at the Nov. 13 meeting.
“Currently the city clerk of Yoakum is responsible for registering and maintaining all the birth and death records that occurred within the city limits of Yoakum for both DeWitt and Lavaca counties,” DeWitt County Clerk Natalie Carson said. “The City of Yoakum clerk has now requested that we take over those responsibilities and they will no longer be classified as the local registrar. It makes it a little simpler for the funeral homes and the doctors knowing that all DeWitt County records will now come to my office.”
This will be effective Jan. 1.
Commissioners also appointed Candace Williamson as the newly hired 4-H agent for the Texas AgriLife Extension Service. She is the only 4-H agent in the County and her start date will be Dec. 1.
“The 4-H program that I’m currently at has brought in over 500 kids in the program, so I’m used to working with a large program,” Williamson said. “I have a lot of great ideas with bringing opportunities to DeWitt County. I’m excited to get started next month and hit the ground running.”
