Thomas ‘Tommy’ J. Dornak
Thomas “Tommy” J. Dornak, 88, of Hallettsville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov.15, 2023.
He was born June 23, 1935 in Worthing to Willie and Teresie (Janak) Dornak.
Tommy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and lived his faith in service to others.
On Oct. 4, 1958 he married the love of his life, Evelyn Steffek. Together they built a strong, loving family that they adored and loved.
He worked many years at Weingartens in Hallettsville and then at Valero for a short period until his retirement.
In his spare time he and Evelyn enjoyed picking and shelling pecans, raising cattle, tending to their large garden and living their country life to the fullest.
Once their grandchildren and great-grandchildren arrived they could easily be found babysitting, riding the pasture in their Kubota and baking delicious treats to go with their ice cream dates in their kitchen. Tommy could barbecue the best pork steak and fry the best fried chicken around. He could often be found going to Hoffer’s to pick up a fountain Diet Coke while dropping off his spare garden veggies.
Whether it was visiting his parents every Sunday as a young man or spending time making mud pies with his great-grandchildren he, with Evelyn by his side, truly enjoyed family time.
Survivors include his sons: Larry (Donna); Garry (Geraldine); Randall (Melissa), all of Hallettsville and daughter, Lisa Glover (Chris) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
