Basketball teams start season with wins

    The Yoakum Lady Bulldogs basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to edge Flatonia 51-46 Nov. 14 at home in the season opener.

    Yoakum took a 12-9 lead after the first frame and Flatonia scored 15 of 27 points in the third box for 24-24 halftime score.

    Flatonia took the lead with a 14-11 run in the third box and Yoakum came back to outscore Flatonia 16-7 in the final eight minutes.

    Jayana Phillips led Yoakum with 16 points and Destiny Rios bagged 15 points; Amori Harper had 13 rebounds.

    The Yoakum junior varsity defeated Victoria Cobras.

    The Yoakum varsity boys defeated Wallis Brazos 47-37 on Friday.
