Commissioners seek extension
Commissioners have sent a letter to the Texas General Land Office seeking an extension of time to submit a project list for the GLO Grant at the Nov. 23 meeting. This grant is $1.3 million and is Hurricane Harvey money which is to be used for parts of the county that are low to moderate income.
“Most of the counties are not low to moderate income. I believe the county is just above 38% low to moderate income,” Project Manager John Reed said. “But eligible activities can include enhancements on water and sewer infrastructures, street and bridges enhancements, and debris removal. This project can also pay for construction services, engineering and design services, and environmental services.”
The drought extension by Governor Greg Abbott was also discussed at the Nov. 23 meeting. “We’re included in the suffering of damages from the drought earlier this year,” Judge Daryl Fowler said. “We don’t necessarily benefit from this, but if there is a rancher or agricultural person that’s trying to gain some benefits or leverage borrowing money from USDA, then this proclamation helps them.”
Finally, commissioners approved a maintenance agreement from Trane HVAC Chiller service for the DeWitt County Courthouse. The contract costs $18,718.
