Owen Smith
Owen Smith, 93, of Shiner, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 24 at Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home, with Mark Smith officiating.
Interment was held at Yoakum Restland Mausoleum under the direction of Thiele-Cooper Funeral Home, Yoakum.
He was born October 19, 1930 in Mereta, Texas, one of the twelve children born to James and Clara (Perkins) Smith.
Owen was a veteran, having served in both the U.S. Marines and U.S. Army. Owen was a dedicated and successful insurance agent with State Farm Insurance for 27 years earning many awards. He was an avid UT sports fan and wore burnt orange proudly. An ardent golfer, he belonged to Balcones Country Club, Onion Creek Country Club, and Alto Lakes Golf and Country Club, playing 3-5 days a week, collecting many friends and their money through the years.
As his children were growing up and before his retirement he was active in working with the community and youth groups. He loved being with his family and spending time with them.
Survivors include his wife, Corliss Lynn (Kaiser) Smith of Shiner; daughters, Tammy Franz (Thomas) of Cedar Park, Courtney Kocian (Tommy) of Yoakum and Jennifer Clayton of Shiner; sons, Jimmy Smith (Laura) of Lakeway and Mark Smith (Dana) of Austin; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sue Coon, Jackie Jeter and Janie Blue; three brothers, Bill Smith, Darrell Smith and Larry Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Guy Smith; sisters, Zadella Moore, Wanda Campbell and Wahnelle Hollander; and brothers, James Smith and W.D. Smith.
Memorials may be made to Tunnels to Towers Project, in honor of veterans and first responders, or Hospice of South Texas.
