St. Paul girls basketball: St. Paul JV girls place third at Weimar Tournament

The St. Paul Lady Cardinals junior varsity basketball team placed third at the Weimar Tournament last Thursday through Saturday with three wins and one loss.
St. Paul 45, Bellville 31
Faith Brown scored 16 points and Karis Barta netted 15 points as the Lady Cards defeated Bellville 45-31 in the first game.
St. Paul led 13-7 after the first quarter and went on a 16-4 run in the second box to lead 29-11 at the break.
The Lady Cards scored 14 of 26 points in the third period and outscored Bellville 12-8 in the fourth stanza.

Barta registered 13 points in St. Paul’s 33-16 win over Schulenburg.
A relatively close 16-10 game at halftime was put away by St. Paul with a 17-6 second-half run.
St. Paul led 8-6 after one quarter and outscored the Lady Shorthorns 8-4 in the second box.
St. Paul scored 10 of 14 points in the third stanza and held Schulenburg to two points in the final  period while netting seven.

Giddings 27, St. Paul 26
Trailing 25-20 entering the fourth quarter against Giddings in the semi-final game, St. Paul went on a 6-2 run but came up short 27-26.
The teams shared 16 points in the first quarter and a 7-6 run by Giddings gave them a 15-14 halftime lead.
The Lady Buffaloes extended their lead by outscoring the Lady Cards 10-6 in the third quarter.
Barta and Nora Koch each sank nine points.

SP 31, Weimar 28 (overtime)
The Lady Cards again foundemselves trailing  23-16 to start the fourth quarter against Weimar in the third-place game but it went better for them as they went on 9-2 run to force overtime and outscored the Lady Wildcats 6-3 to take a 31-28 win.
Weimar led 6-4 after the first frame and outscored St. Paul 11-7 in the second stanza.
Weimar scored six of 11 points in the third box.
Eden Rodriguez scored in double digits with 11 points to lead St. Paul.
